Our History

The managers of Innerwork Mortgage, Rusty Mendoza and Dustin Sheppard, met when working as loan officers for Big Valley Mortgage outside of Sacramento, CA. They decided to become partners and start their own business. In 2006 they proudly opened Innerwork Mortgage. Justin Johnson, who had been working with Rusty since 2004, also joined the team. They had a small office space perfect for the three of them. In 2008, when they aligned themselves as a retail branch of American Pacific Mortgage, they relocated and expanded into a larger business model and space.

In 2009 they decided to open a second location on North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Dustin has deep family connections in this area, and spent his childhood in both Hawaii and Northern California. Joshua Echemendia, a former Punahou high school teacher (Punahou is President Obama's alma mater, and one of the oldest and most-storied college-preparatory schools west of the Mississippi), joined Innerwork Mortgage's team. Josh is a long-time resident of the North Shore and became the company's "man on the ground" in Hawaii. Innerwork added broker relationships with local Hawaiian banks to facilitate the funding of all types of loans possible in the islands, including those with structural dynamics unique to the mortgage business in Hawaii. With the addition of Josh to the team and the expansion of their banking relationships, Innerwork became a local Hawaiian lender primed to offer the best mortgage support available in the state. Innerwork has now opened a Honolulu location and is providing financing to all the islands of Hawaii.

Today, Innerwork is recognized by American Pacific Mortgage as one of their top branches. Within American Pacific Mortgage, they continue to lead with their example of what a successful branch looks like. They believe that success does not happen by accident, but instead via deliberate steps and systems designed and refined to ensure results for both clients and employees.

The Company

Part of our commitment to our clients and real estate agents requires that we have strategic relationships with the right industry partners; for this reason we have chosen to be a retail branch of American Pacific Mortgage. This positioning has created the ideal environment for success in our ever-changing mortgage industry.

APM has been operating since 1996, is licensed in 19 states, and has more then 160 branches. APM is also recognized by HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) as a top-50 FHA-loan originator and was given the Broker of the Year Award by the California Association of Mortgage Brokers.

APM allows us to fund loans via in-house banking lines which means, in essence, that we have our own bank. By functioning as a mortgage banker, we have the ability to underwrite and fund our loans "in-house," which provides quick turn times, open lines of communication to our underwriters on all files, lower rates, and outstanding customer service. Via our relationship with APM, we are also able to broker loans to many other banks. Thus we maintain the flexibility to either fund loans through our bank or broker loans to other lending institutions via wholesale channels — whichever is in the client's best interest.

In addition to having the best resources available in the industry for residential financing, APM also provides us with a platform for commercial financing and reverse mortgages. Within American Pacific Mortgage, we have The Commercial Lending Group and The Reverse Mortgage Group, which are located at corporate headquarters and available and eager to support us when our clients need these types of financing.
